EXCEL MARKET
TRENDS, INNOVATORS OF NEW PRODUCTS VIA
PLASTICS MANUFACTURING
Thermoplastic polymers and copolymers are vital
materials in every major contemporary industrial area. From packaging to home furnishings, from apparel to medical equipments,
from bottles and bandages to a variety of other products, plastics are significant all purpose materials that assists
with and serve a high number of industrial and domestic purposes.
In the past 10 years, the use of plastic resin
has significantly increased in annual sales by 2.4%. A margin squeeze caused an increase in price rate gain for resin producers,
while the rate of organic chemicals input fell. Plastic resin producers have increased, especially among new industrialized
and developing nations. however the increased tended to fail US exports, as a result. Overcoming the dimiished sales of exports
, this recent surge in the development of foreign countries' industrial infrastructure is expected to intensify over the next
10 years, as the U.S. plays a role in the aggressive development of many of these countries.
The United States leads the market
in plastic makers and can be expected to increase in domestic capacity. Plastic is the largest catagory of man-made
materials in the U.S. Since 1980, plastic has increased in production at a rate of about 5% per annum, propelled by end-use
market growth. Materials like paper, glass, wood concrete and leather add to the technologically-driven application
of plastic. Each of the 45 families of plastics can be recreated with variations that comprise hundreds of product possibilities,
which allows for limitless market potential.
While, high volume, low-cost commodity products
make up the majority of plastic shipments, the cost of feedstaocks and supply and demand conditions determine the price of
resin. The fabrication of end-use plastic products includes packaging, the construction of toys, transportation, electronics,
and household goods. Shipments in the U.S. is valued at $40billion dollars, while exports represented $11billion dollars.
Imports were averaged at $5billion of the total market.
Tightening the supply condition for American
markets in the 1990's, Canada, Western Europe and Mexico lead as producers of plastics. Competition created by Asian market
power presented a challenge for U.S. producers as the eastern region increased development of petrochemical plants and, by
1995, exported a large portion of U.S. supplies.
